Sustainable Sundays @Natural History Museum
The UN has declared 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity. Today, meet the organizations that are hard at work protecting our local wildlife and their habitats. Check out what’s buzzing with the NHM's Entomology Department and meet staff from their Marine Biodiversity Center, who will give you a close up look at the animals that live off the coast. Create your own origami animals, build a habitat with artist Marissa Johnen, watch an innovative performance of Hop, Slither, & Stalk, and take a tour of the amazing biodiversity that exists in the Museum! It's all part of their monthly Sustainable Sundays program. 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Memorial Weekend Festival @MacArthur Park
It's day two of a weekend-long street festival livened up with the flavors of 20 Latin nations taking place at 10 a.m. today in MacArthur Park. Ride the Red Line right to the festival, and enjoy rides and games, live music, info booths, vendors, and food.
Purple Rain @Cinespia
"Oh no, let's go!" Prince--poor, misunderstood Prince--zips around Minneapolis on a purple motorcycle, trying to make it big as a musician. See 1984's cult classic Purple Rain as part of the Cinespia screening series at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Admission is $10 by donation, no reservations necessary. Gates are at 7, movie starts at 8:30, and please, no tall chairs.
