Kulov Tea Fest
Today is the second day of the weekend-long Kulov Tea Fest, which is taking place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Royal/T in Culver City. Admission to this tenth-annual event is free, so you can meet tea-related exhibitors and drink up the tea-soaked atmosphere, but there are also several workshops on tea and tea-drinking you may still be able to sign up for (each has an additional charge). A Terry Gilliam Double Feature @New Beverly
Let your imagination unwind as you see two films from director Terry Gilliam at the New Beverly Cinema. First up is 2009's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus which stars Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrel, Jude Law and many more (Sun: 5:30 & 9:40). On the same bill, for one showing only today (7p) is Brazil, the 1985 visual stunner that was nominated for 2 Oscars.
AUTO FREAK: A J-Town Pop-up Shop
Head to Little Tokyo to catch this unique melange of art, vendors, live music, performances and screenings. This 30-day pop-up gets underway today, and you can join in on the opening event this afternoon from 3-8--there's even light refreshments in the form of chocolate & cheese. It's a temporary, experimental co-op storefront pop-up at the Little Tokyo Marketplace (333 S. Alameda, 90013, 2nd Floor, Unit 212 - at the other end of Max Karaoke). [More info]
DIY Craft Workshop: Help Make Props & Costumes for an Opera
One in a series of ongoing weekend DIY craft workshops, Overtone Industries invites everyone to join them today from 12:30-4:30 to help craft the props, sets, and costumes for their upcoming production, Songs and Dances of Imaginary Lands, a site-specific contemporary opera, taking place in Culver City in July 2010. They're looking for crafters, artists, knitters, and all levels from professionals to beginners are welcome.
