GET DOO DAH-ED
Awwww, yeah! It's the 32nd Occasional Doo Dah Parade, the anti-Rose Parade, taking the streets of Pasadena at 11:30 this morning. Bring your own lawn chairs to Old Town Pasadena (Raymond and Colorado) to take a gander at wha thas been named "Best Parade in America" by Readers' Digest. Over 1,500 revelers will be led by 2009 Grand Marshal Charles Phoenix (LAist Interview), who will be perched atop a bright red fire marshal's station wagon towing a classic trailer followed by a troupe of colorfully coutured roller skaters. The list of oddball participants is too huge to list--it's one of those "you've just gotta see this" at least once in your life!
GET INTO ARTISTS BEFORE THEY SELL OUT
...Because they're kindergarteners! "There's No People Like Snow People" is an art show featuring some very raw talent. The kids of Room 5, Ms. Morris' class, at Ivanhoe Elementary School, have their creativeness on display at Monkeyhouse Toys & Art Gallery this weekend. Twenty-one very individual kids will be showing off their original artwork with a wintry theme.
GET FUNKY
MBar in Hollywood hosts a night of comedy, poetry, and who knows what else with their Spoken Funk series, "where the FUNK brings you in...but the FUN, brings you back! NEW Year, NEW Games, NEW Surprises...SUNDAYS will never be the SAME!" The show is $15, and you'll need to make a reservation and plan on getting there early to nab a seat. For Reservations, call (323) 856-0036. Doors Open at: 8:00 p.m.
GET YER BLOOMIN' ARSE IN THE GARDEN
Descanso Gardens' 20-acre Camellia Forest is in bloom! You can wander among the 34,000 Camellia plants, and chat with experts who know and show camellias. It's going to be another stunning day, so get out and meander the gardens!
Other Things to Do: Go shopping for goodies to serve at your Flight of the Conchords viewing party, see if you can score a deal at a Circuit City store, walk the staircases in Beachwood Canyon, or have some Crafstman brew and an awesome grilled cheese sandwich at Laurel Tavern.
