More Questionable Decisions by Dodgers Mar Zack Greinke's Gem and Juan Uribe's Heroics

Zack Greinke did everything he could to win Game 1 of the NL Championship Series for the Dodgers. All Greinke did was pitch eight innings striking out 10 and walking only one batter. The only mistake he made was a Carlos Beltran double in the third inning that tied the game 2-2. However centerfielder Andre Ethier perhaps could have caught that had it not been his first start since suffering from shin splints on Sept. 13.

The Resurrection of Matt Kemp Cannot Resurrect the Dodgers

Down went Hanley. Down went Andre. Down went Puig. Okay, Puig came back for a pinch-hitting spot to end the game yesterday, but his return to the lineup batting clean up is not the news. No. Matt Kemp has been reinstated from the disabled list. MATT KEMP!

Dodgers Battle Injuries and Hunter Pence in a Loss to the Giants

There was only one acceptable explanation for the Dodger lineup today, and manager Don Mattingly got it right. "Today is a matter of not having guys," he said. It showed in the Dodgers 4-3 loss to the Giants.

For the superstitious set, this Friday the 13th was indeed unlucky for the Dodgers as they lost to the Giants 4-2.

Dodgers Win Despite Another Donnie Bullpen Goof

Despite another bullpen miscue by manager Don Mattingly, the Dodgers beat the Giants 3-2 on an Adrian Gonzalez single in the 10th inning. Mattingly heaped praise on Gonzalez for his steadiness despite the rollercoaster ride that has been this season.

Dodgers Lose Despite Another Cuban Debut

The Dodgers, with Michael Young, Scott Van Slyke, Skip Schumaker and Nick Punto in the lineup, did not trot out what would deemed their everyday postseason lineup. That was evident as the Dodgers lost 4-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

One Scott Van Slyke swing brought the game to an end, a two-run home run in the 11th inning that gave the Dodgers the 5-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Juan Uribe Hit Three Home Runs

Despite a Loss to the Red Sox, the Dodgers Still Believe

"They believe it. That's all that matters." The words that Don Mattingly uttered this morning are probably the scariest words for the rest of baseball. After the Dodgers 4-2 loss to the Red Sox today, the Dodgers are 19-4 in the month of August, 29-6 since the All Star Break and 46-11 since that June 22 turning point.

Dodgers Breeze Through a Shutout of Boston

It's funny how these things happen. A year ago on Sunday, the Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox made the historic nine-player trade that turned the fortunes of both franchises. Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto came to Los Angeles while James Loney, Allen Webster, Rubby De La Rosa, Jerry Sands and Ivan DeJesus went out East. I remember remarking on how surreal the day was.

Vin Scully Will Return in 2014

(Photo by pvsbond via Flickr.) "In a year that has been so improbable," Vin Scully intoned on the national NBC broadcast of Game 1 of the 1988 World Series when Kirk Gibson hit the walk off homer off of Oakland Athletics closer Dennis Eckersley. This Dodger season has also been improbable from the team with high expectations who failed miserably only to go on miraculous run to become World Series favorites. And after the...

Clayton Kershaw Is the Best Pitcher in Baseball

Clayton Kershaw continues to stun everyone in baseball.

Yasiel Puig Silences Critics

Puig Puig Puig. Puig went out clubbing. Puig was late. Puig got benched. Puig yelled at an umpire. Puig doesn't like the media. Puig has been looking bad at the plate. Over the last couple of days, there has been much media fury over Puig. Of course media fury is usually manufactured and has no place in reality.

Dodgers Show No Brotherly Love To the Phillies

The Dodgers really are a remarkable team. They don't even play one game against their opponent, and they still fire their manager.

Gold Medal Figure Skater Peggy Fleming Almost Killed the Dodgers Season

"It's true," J.P. Howell confessed with his trademark jack o'lantern grin. I had read on the computer machine that J.P. Howell got his ass whooped by 1968 gold medal winning figure skater Peggy Fleming. Not content in trusting what others write especially since I have the key figure in the story in front of me, I had to confirm whether this was true.

Video: Dodgers Create More Improbable Magic

I don't know what to believe anymore. Perhaps Vin Scully is right and Dodger Stadium is a Magic Castle. Even manager Don Mattingly couldn't explain things.

For Today, Miley Cyrus Brings the Hits for the Dodgers

There are no words for what the Dodgers are doing right now. With their 4-2 win over the Mets, they are now 39-8 in their last 47 games, a feat unseen, unheard, un-anything by most people alive right now watching baseball.

Dodgers Continue Their Magical Ride

Vin Scully, harkening back to the magical 1988 season, called Dodger Stadium the "Magic Castle." The Dodgers faced a 2-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the sixth inning having been hamstrung by Mets starter Jenrry Mejia through the first five innings: singles by Ricky Nolasco in the third, Adrian Gonzalez in the fourth and Juan Uribe in the fifth the only glimpses of offense the Dodgers displayed.

Dodgers Keep Winning, Try To Stay Grounded

For weeks I was looking forward to this Dodgers-Rays matchup. I thought it was going to be a great test against a team that is fighting for their AL East lives, the team whose frugal approach is a 180-degree approach from the Dodgers free-spending ways.

The Dodgers Pull Out an Incredible Comeback

Dodger Stadium has seen soccer, ski-jumping, boxing, supercross, basketball. It's seen Madonna, Elton John, KISS, Depeche Mode and the Cure among other bands and musicians. It's even seen the Pope. Thus it's a big occasion when the stadium hosts the Tampa Bay Rays for the very first time — the last active Major League holdout. But then you see what the Dodgers accomplished in this game, you just sit back, jaw agape and wonder what exactly you witnessed.

Teen Befriended by Matt Kemp Succumbed to Brain Cancer

A sad update to a story that took off in early May. The 19-year old teenager Joshua Jones whom Matt Kemp gave his gloves, jersey and shoes at AT&T Park in San Francisco succumbed to brain cancer on Tuesday.

The Dodgers Are a Very Good Team

The Dodgers continue to steamroll through the competition since June 22. While most of it has been pretty bad — Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants to name three — the Dodgers proved themselves in taking three of four from the St. Louis Cardinals.

Dodger Stadium Soccer Did Not Meet the Hype

Is that all there is? That repeated question in the Peggy Lee classic kept rolling in my head on Saturday as I sat in the loge section at Dodger Stadium. It was the Guinness International Champions Cup. The doubleheader feature the semifinals of the tournament between Real Madrid and Everton and a consolation round (of sorts) between Juventus and the Galaxy. The other half of the draw — AC Milan, Inter Milan, Valencia CF and Chelsea played today at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Ninth Inning Mars Kuroda-Kershaw Duel

It takes something special to displace everything that is cloyingly sentimental and grandiose about a Dodgers-Yankees matchup. There were the celebrities, Kobe Bryant hobnobbing with Tommy Lasorda while Dallas Cowboys stars Demarcus Ware and Jason Witten mingle with Cristiano Ronaldo and Samuel L. Jackson. There was the hubbub of Mariano Rivera's final appearance at the Ravine, the Dodgers 19-5 record in July.

Dodgers Walk Off Again, This Time Against Yanks

New York City can boast several advantages over Los Angeles. They have an excellent subway system. They are the financial capital of the country. Hell, their mayoral races are more fun. It's not like Eric Garcetti would ever post a weiner shot (cough) and have his spokeswoman call the recipient a "slutbag."

Dodgers Attract Highest Television Ratings Since 1998

KCAL issued a press release saying the Dodgers 3-2 victory over the New York Yankees attracted the high rating since 1998.

Yasiel Puig Walks Off, Slides In

Yasiel Puig had been scuffling in the game. Well all the Dodgers had been scuffling in the game — they set a franchise record with 20 strikeouts in this game.

Battle Between Korean Stars Ends in Dodger Victory

60 years ago today an armistice agreement was signed that effectively ended hostilities on the Korean peninsula. It created the demilitarized zone that hovers around the 38th parallel that continues to divide families. After the armistice agreement, peace treaty talks were supposed to ensue to bring an end to the Korean War. It didn't happen. So let's celebrate that failure with the first ever showdown between Ryu Hyun-Jin and Choo Shin-Soo!

Just Another Gem for Clayton Kershaw

There are really no words, superlative or otherwise, to describe the artistry that is a Clayton Kershaw pitched game.

No Comeback for the Dodgers Tonight

Unlike the last two games, there was no comeback in store for the Dodgers tonight as they fell to the Cincinnati Reds 5-2. They weren't going to go undefeated in their remaining 62 games. They were going to take their lumps here and there, and they surely took them tonight.

From Down to Their Last Strike to a Sweep for the Dodgers

Top of the ninth inning the Dodgers were down to their final strike trailing the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2. Yasiel Puig was standing on first base having been walked by Casey Janssen to lead off the ninth inning. Both Adrian Gonzalez and Hanley Ramirez couldn't move Puig at all, both striking out.

Dodgers Pull a Comeback in Toronto

It was an amazing game, the Dodgers 10-9 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. 1. How did the Dodgers celebrate their first full day all alone in first place? To quote the press release, "Dodgers select contract of Carlos Marmol." That prompted my snark tweet of, "First place was nice, right?"

The Problem with MLB's Drug Prosecution

Ryan Braun admitted to taking performance enhancing drugs and will be suspended for the remainder of 2013 which amounts to 65 games. Dodger fans rejoiced, the man who stole Matt Kemp's NL MVP award in 2011 was finally caught and all is well. But let's take a step back for a minute.

The Dodgers Are in First Place

Earlier in the evening the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 14-5. The Arizona Diamondbacks just lost to the Chicago Cubs 4-2.

Dodgers Start Second Half Hot

The Dodgers are a big deal now. Over the break, a lot of "experts" have them running away with the second half en route to an NL West title. Even the seedy folks over at Bovada have the Dodgers favored to win the NL West.

Kings Extend Captain, Fill Front Office Vacancy

It was a whirlwind morning for the Kings. Not only did they fill their front office vacancy, they signed captain Dustin Brown to an eight-year extension that will keep him through the 2021-22 season.

Dodgers Quiet as First Half Ends

Ricky Nolasco did not have a Zack Greinke outing in his first start at Dodger Stadium as a Dodgers. Just a cursory glance at the 3-1 final score was evidence of that. Besides it's hard to top a two-hit complete game shutout.

Dodger Dumpster Dive: Signings, Crowds & Sharknados

On this, the first day of the All Star break, I have a whole slew of odds and ends that didn't really fit anywhere else.

Greinke Shuts Down the Rockies

Zack Greinke was impervious to the world. It didn't matter that the Dodgers scored only one run for him. Greinke had a perfect game going through 4 1/3 innings and wound up with a two-pitch shutout striking out nine hitters and walking one. His 110-pitch masterpiece took all of two hours, 17 minutes to complete.
