A Northern California-based company is recalling more than 8.7 million pounds of beef due to lax inspections, according to federal officials. The products were processed from Jan. 1, 2013, through Jan. 7, 2014, and shipped to distribution centers and retail stores in California, Florida, Illinois and Texas.

A suspect has been arrested for animal cruelty after a dog had fireworks strapped to him and set on fire last July, causing third-degree burns. Forty-one-year-old Carlos Duarte was arrested Thursday following a police investigation surrounding a 3-year-old pit bull named Indy, who was found injured in an alley last year.
