San Bernardino Brush Fire Burns Homes

A brush fire that broke out Monday evening in San Bernardino has damaged at least six homes and was threatening others.

More than 70 firefighters responded to the fire. They were assisted by 16 engines and aircraft making water drops, according to the San Bernardino County Fire District.

The fire was burning near the Newmark Little League park around West 39th Street and North Severance Avenue.

The fire has grown to 17 acres and is being driven by strong winds. Fire officials said multiple power lines are down in the area.

Television news footage showed homes on fire and winds buffeting emergency crews as they led people and pets down a hillside to safety.

No injuries have been reported. Hand crews were attempting to protect homes by cutting brush nearby.
