Moby Headlines A Benefit That Supports Inmates With Music
On September 28th at the Ford Theatre, Jail Guitar Doors presents their annual benefit, Rock Out 5!. The annual benefit serves to fundraise for the non-profit and help continue their work to provide musical experiences as a solution for inmate rehabilitation.
This year Rock Out 5! includes performances from Moby and his band including Mindy Jones, Tripp Beam, Julie Mintz, Jonathan Nesvadba, Daron Murphy, Laura Dawn, with special guests Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Jesse Carmichael (Maroon 5). Guest can expect this talented lineup to perform everything from their own hits, deep cuts, to covers of other classic tracks. The event is also partnering with Project PAINT, who will showcase artwork created by artists who are incarcerated.
Jail Guitar Doors, named after the Clash song, is an organization founded by Billy Braggs and Wayne Kramer aimed at "providing musical instruments and mentorship to help rehabilitate incarcerated individuals through the transformative power of music". The organization will donate instruments to facilities, offer group workshops, and encourage participants to collaborate and create original songs together.
