It's been a growing trend in recent years to see celebrities gather in L.A. for a live reading of a classic movie's screenplay. Film Independent's next live read is My Dinner With Andre, and it features two comedy heavy hitters: John Mulaney and Nick Kroll.

Actor/comedians Mulaney and Kroll will be both starring in and directing the staged reading. It's a perfect fit for the duo, who've established a strong comedic partnership.

They just hosted Film Independent's Spirit Awards last year. They're best known together for creating the absurd characters of the show Oh, Hello, which went from a recurring sketch on Kroll's Comedy Central show to a live Broadway production.

The film My Dinner with Andre itself starred multi-hyphenates Andre Gregory and Wallace Shawn playing fictionalized versions of themselves, having a fascinating conversation over dinner. It's a two-person piece, all about conversation dynamics and relationship — which won a four-star review from legendary film critic Roger Ebert. It's just two people talking, but one of the best examples of two people talking.

Mulaney also made a splash at the Oscars on Sunday, presenting with Awkwafina.

Film Independent — the organization that runs the Spirit Awards and, until last year, the L.A. Film Festival — has put together several of these live reads in recent years. They've included talent ranging from Patton Oswalt to Quentin Tarantino, doing movies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off and an all-women read of Stand By Me.

The live read will be at the Wallis Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m.
