Step into the Orpheum Theatre on February 12th for an evening of stand-up comedy, a political powerpoint, a live advice column - and plenty of opinion. Hosted by Rachel Dry, the New York Times Op-Ed Live will offer an in-person experience with Opinion contributors Roxane Gay, Guy Branum, and Lindy West.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, this event will be sure to draw from the lover's holiday for conversation inspiration. Guests will be treated with a live "Ask Roxane"on stage, a comedic set accompanied with visuals by Guy Branum, and the author of "Shrill", Lindy West, will be sure to offer her positions on the topics that arise.

To offer a little preview of what's going down at The Orpheum, the Author of "Bad Feminist" gave us some of her Hot Takes on the Oscars, Kamala Harris running for President, and Twitter.

1) The 2019 Academy Award Nominations - Who was snubbed? Which nominations are you excited for?

The cast and production of Crazy Rich Asians were snubbed. I am excited for Regina King, Melissa McCarthy, Yalitza Aparicio, Hannah Beachler, and Ruth E. Carter.

2) How will Kamala Harris win over Hillary supporters?

I am not sure this is the right question. The right question is how will Kamala Harris win over black women voters and the answer is that she must account for her policies and work as a prosecutor and attorney general in California, many of which caused a great deal of harm to the black community.

3) What is Twitter good for?

Twitter is good for feeling like you're at a cocktail party in your pajamas. It is a great way to get breaking news, though that news is not filtered which has both benefits and liabilities. It is also a great way to experiment with lines of inquiry for essay writing and there is a certain petty satisfaction in the ease with which one can dunk on trolls.
