Actress Ego Nwodim is swapping coasts, as she was just announced as Saturday Night Live's latest featured cast member, expanding the show's diversity. She's going from joking about dreams of food in her pantry to debuting on SNL's premiere this fall.

Nwodim's been a prominent performer in the L.A. comedy scene, a member of improv and sketch comedy teams at the Upright Citizens Brigade. She's appeared on shows like 2 Broke Girls, Living Biblically, and Law & Order True Crime.

She's originally from Baltimore but graduated from USC — with a degree in biology. As she puts it in her UCB bio, "Ego put her pricey diploma in the recycling bin and started taking classes at the UCB Theatre."

Nwodim previously appeared in CBS's Diversity Showcase, as well as the Just For Laughs New Faces Characters showcase. Last year, she appeared in that trope of acting, a one-person show, Great Black Women...and Then There's Me. It played to a sold-out audience.

Along with Nwodim, SNL just signed four new writers: Alan Linic, Alison Gates, Eli Mandel and Bowen Yang. The show's 44th season premiere is Sept. 29, hosted by Adam Driver with musical guest Kanye West.
