Want To Own A Piece Of Disneyland? Now's Your Chance
Disneyland may be in Anaheim, but for a short time you can see — and if you're lucky, buy — some of its relics in the Valley.
"That's From Disneyland!" is a pop-up exhibit free to the public. It opened August 1 in a 40,000-square-foot retail space in Sherman Oaks formerly occupied by Sports Authority.
On display are countless Disney objects — concept art, attraction posters and small souvenirs like vintage ticket books and postcards, but also much bigger items like animatronic dolls from "It's a Small World," those eerie stretching paintings from the original Haunted Mansion, a car from "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" and even a bobsled from "Matterhorn" and a vehicle from "Space Mountain." It's all the mementos from your childhood you can imagine.
The exhibit runs Wednesdays to Sundays from noon to 8 p.m. until the end of the month. About 750 of the items will be up for sale during an auction on August 25 and 26.
The event is hosted by Van Eaton Galleries and collector Richard Kraft, who says in a message posted on the website:
"After 25 years of hoarding artifacts from Disneyland in my home, office, and countless storage facilities, I'm swinging open the doors to my collection and throwing a bon voyage party for everyone who shares fond memories of Disneyland. This FREE exhibit is my way of saying goodbye to my beloved treasures from the Happiest Place on Earth."
Things like posters and graphics are expected to cost $700-$900, while large figurines and dolls can cost tens of thousands — like this mermaid, which is expected to go for a minimum of $15,000:
The auction may be perfect for those who have had lifelong dreams of turning their living room into a small Disneyland. Or who grew up watching old Disney movies and want to commemorate them at home. Below is just a sampling of what's on offer.
The exhibit and auction are located at 13730 Riverside Dr., Sherman Oaks. There will be special events at the exhibit before the auction, like scavenger hunts and concerts, all of which can be found on their website under "special events."
