The Best Deals To Be Had & Local Businesses To Visit During Echo Park Rising
By Annie Lesser
Echo Park Rising is predominantly known for its hundreds of free music performances, but the festival also likes to highlight the diversity and creativity of Echo Park’s small business community. A full list of local businesses supporting Echo Park Rising can be found here, many of which have specials going on this weekend. Here are some of the best deals to be had around the festival, and local businesses to visit on Saturday and Sunday.
With both daytime and late-night happy hours, plenty of food options for every dietary restriction and a great craft beer and cocktail list, Mohawk Bend has been a popular haunt in Echo Park for six years now. To celebrate Echo Park Rising, they will be offering a special Rising Punch cocktail. The Rising Punch features Cutwater Spirits Jamaica Vodka, basil, lime ginger and hibiscus served over ice. It costs $10 and you get to keep the IPA Fest half pint glass it’s served in.
Mohawk Bend is located at 2141 Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park. (213) 483-2337
This new gourmet cinnamon bun outfit lets customers either order from a list of featured rolls or design their own with a large selection of toppings. Two signature flavors we love are the LA Dodgers Roll which has cream cheese frosting, blueberries, marshmallows and raspberry jam, as well as the Echo Park Roll, made with cream cheese frosting, brownie bites, walnuts and chocolate sauce. All EPR weekend cinnamon rolls will be 10% off. Oh, and did we mention that everything on their menu is vegan?
Cinnaholic is located at 2134 Sunset Boulevard Suite E in Echo Park. (323) 844-3944
Although Masa is primarily known for their deep dish pizza, those with kids should note that on Sunday starting at 12 p.m. they will be doing a family sing along. All kids in attendance will get free pieces of thin crust cheese pizza and cookies. For the adults at the table, we still recommend putting in an order of deep dish (it takes about 40 minutes to prepare) for yourself while you’re there.
Masa is located at 1800 Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park.
Located up Echo Park Avenue by Morton, Glowing Juices might be a little farther afield from the Sunset and Glendale Boulevard epicenter of EPR than the other businesses on this list, but it’s hard for health conscious customers to argue with making a quick detour to visit this juice shop. Glowing Juices will be offering 10% off smoothies, acai bowls and fresh-squeezed juices all weekend.
Glowing Juices is located at 1557 Echo Park Avenue in Echo Park. (213) 537-0680
Little Joy has been a staple of Echo Park for years now, it’s no wonder that the same people behind that bar also have opened a sports bar with a similar following. The Holloway might not be offering discounts during EPR, but they have cut down their menu to only their most popular items to offer expedited service during the festival’s rush. Expect a shorter wait when you order items like The Gringo Nachos or The Holloway’s signature burger.
The Holloway is located at 1320 Echo Park Avenue in Echo Park. (213) 221-7615
For those who might feel like burning some calories after stuffing themselves at the aforementioned establishments or maybe need to just align their bones after too much dancing, Club Pilates is offering a free intro pilates class on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
Club Pilates is at 1720 West Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park. (323) 505-4355
Cosmic Vinyl is known for featuring hard-to-find records as well as high quality vintage audio equipment. They even have a vintage record listening station in back. This weekend, aside from having live performances Saturday and Sunday, the store will be offering 10% off on records. Note the listening station is on the stage, so during performances you probably can’t listen to records. Although when live music is going on who would want to?
Cosmic Vinyl is located at 2149 Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park. (213) 568-3113
Those who always related to Lydia Deetz’s quote in Beetlejuice, “I myself am strange and unusual,” will find themselves right at home in this oddities shop. Memento Mori features everything from vintage phones to preserved dragon flies to traditional mexican skull art. On Sunday the store plans to have offer 15% off all medical instruments, taxidermy and entomology, vintage framed photos and typewriters. So get your gothic freak on and enjoy!

This new vintage clothing store with a ‘70s shag meets modern minimalist aesthetic is probably the perfect place to find that Zooey Deschanel or Darren Criss doppleganger in your life’s new favorite item. Spacedust is just one of those stores that screams indie. It has cool gifts, clothes from local designers, and we love the unique L.A. neighborhood postcards. There is “real guitar art” on the walls and all weekend they are having local bands perform. They will also be giving out coupons all through the festival that are good until September 20th for up to $25 off your purchase.
Spacedust is located at 2153 Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park. (323) 484-6343
This bookstore is an Echo Park institution. With a cute cafe, performance space on the back patio and goods from local vendors it’s more than just a place to pickup your next read, it’s a welcome home to artists and art fans alike. All weekend they will be having $3 cafe specials on items for local vendors like Laura Ann’s Jams’ blueberry basil limeade, Homeboy Industries’ coffee cake, 16 oz cold brew from Bicycle Coffee and SHUGAH MAMA’s og cookies.
