Anatra To Bring California Fare To Burgeoning Fashion District
Look no further than Anatra (Italian for "duck") for evidence of the continued rise of downtown's Fashion District. The restaurant, set to open in late June, will feature a California take on classic French and Italian cuisines.
Chef and co-owner Peyman Rasi has spent time in many of L.A.'s fine dining kitchens, from The Raymond and Locanda Veneta, to Il Grano and Locanda Positano. Now, he's bringing his own take on the white tablecloth experience to the corner of 8th and Santee Street.
"I spent almost a year looking for a location—all over town," Rasi tells LAist. "Then the realtor showed me this building and I fell in love. It has that beautiful art deco exterior. It's classic, and that's exactly how the restaurant is going to feel."
Expect menu items like housemade gnocchi with veal shoulder, scallops and cauliflower purée, and bucatini with Emilia Romagna meatballs. But don't expect the tab to break the bank. "I want it to be fine dining at fine prices," Risa adds. "It's an approachable menu with items for those who want more."
Anatra will open with beer and wine, with plans to secure a liquor license in the near future. With the coming wave of high-end apartments springing up all around, Anatra is poised to become the sort of neighborhood restaurant that people come back to night after night.
Anatra is located at 217 8th Street in downtown Los Angeles.
