Brooklyn Bagel Bakery Could Reopen As Soon As This Summer

It's been over two years since Brooklyn Bagel Bakery shuttered due to a structural collapse at their Historic Filipinotown location. Now, fans of the beloved bagel purveyor have some good news: construction on the damaged location has started, with plans to reopen by the end of summer.

"Hello Brooklyn Bagel fans, We are proud to announce that the construction plans have been approved by the City of Los Angeles as well as health department," the bakery's Facebook post from May 30 begins. "We started construction about 10 days ago!!! We are hoping to be opened in about 3 months. We can't wait to get some bagels cooking in our retail store again!!! Thanks for your loyal support."

The news comes as other shops have announce plans to open along Historic Filipinotown's stretch of Beverly Boulevard; downtown's Tactile Coffee truck will be opening a brick-and-mortar there soon, and Boyle Height's Vaka Burger will be expanding there as well.

Brooklyn Bagels has been located at its Beverly Boulevard home since 1965. LAist reached out to new owner Vanik Elchibegian, but he was unavailable for immediate comment.
