White Clam Pizza & Other Italian-American Staples Coming To Echo Park's New Cosa Buona

Zach Pollack's latest concept, Cosa Buona, opens Thursday in Echo Park. The Italian-American diner takes over the former Pizza Buona on the corner of Sunset and Alvarado.

“I love making and serving great pizza - that was the number one drive behind Cosa Buona,” Pollack said, according to a statement. “I wanted to open the kind of Italian restaurant that people go to or take out from because the food is very good and very satisfying, not because it's revolutionary cooking or a scene. You’ll come here because you’re craving great pizza, Caesar salad, eggplant parm, meatballs, etc. The objective is to create the best version of these dishes, not to redefine Italian food via creative expressions.”

Pollack previously partnered with Steve Samson to open Sotto in 2011, then struck out on his own to open Alimento in 2014.

Look for classic italian sandwich options on the lunch menu (did someone say chicken parm?), and a dinner menu that includes white clam pizza, "Hawaiiana" pizza, as well as options like "peel n' eat" shrimp scampi, a calzone, and soft-boiled eggs tonnato.

Cosa Buona is located at 2100 West Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park. (213) 908-5211. The restaurant is open for dinner 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday, and until 11:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Beginning June 1, Cosa Buona will be open daily for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
