You know those Bring Your Kids To Work days? Yeah, those don't fly with us. Many of us don't even have kids, and that time we brought the emotional crutch dog to work, it made a huge mess in the common room.

Ah yes, this is more our speed: bringing your bike to work. Thursday will be Metro's annual "Bike To Work Day," which celebrates those in the work force who pedal their way to their 9-to-5. If you don't bike to work, Thursday will be a good time to start, as Metro will be giving away a number of freebies for cyclists. The most major giveaway will be free rides on both Metro Bus and Rail; according to The Source, you'll have to show up with either a bike or bike helmet to partake, and at gated stations you'll have to use the intercom to call for an attendant, who'll then let you in for free.

There'll be other handouts too, like refreshments and snacks at pit stops across the county. And at Union Station a DJ will be spinning tunes as a bike mechanic looks over your gear. Here's a map of all the places (the green pinpoints) where'll you be able to indulge in Bike To Work Day:

Metro also notes that several other agencies are taking part in the day. They include Culver City Bus, Long Beach Transit, DASH and Commuter Express, Beach Cities Transit, City of El Monte Transportation, and others. Also, Metrolink is offering free rides to cyclists up until Friday.
