Photos: 'La La Land' Day Or City-Sponsored Marketing Ploy For 'La La Land' DVD Release? You Decide

You know that genre of horror films wherein the titular character is resistant to being killed? That’s how we feel about La La Land. Mayor Eric Garcetti, noted La La Land obsessive, declared that April 25 is “La La Land Day.” As if that wasn’t enough of a slap the face of the people of Los Angeles, the mayor held a celebration to honor director Damien Chazelle on his wildly mediocre film that represented a comparatively small portion of Angelenos. In other news, April 25 happens to be the same day that the La La Land DVD and Blu-ray is being released, making this what essentially amounts to a city-sponsored marketing campaign.

The festivities were plentiful and spread throughout the day, probably with the intention of adding salt to the wound! Aerial dancers cascaded across City Hall in a performance inspired by the film while La La Land dance lessons were held at both Grand Central Market and 3rd St. Dance — one would have been enough, Garcetti! Bars across the city "celebrated" with a La La Land themed evening which included enter to win boxes with Blu-rays offered as prizes while Long Beach’s The Blind Donkey bar fully transformed in "Seb's," Ryan Gosling's black-erasure jazz bar.

It’s like c’mon, Garcetti: Moonlight's moving story of queer black love and stunning cinematography won, get over it!
