Chef Eric Greenspan's Maré already had locations in Santa Monica and on Melrose when they welcomed a third sibling in early February. At the new spot in Silver Lake, you can expect the same coastal cuisine, with a few new items that are exclusive to the outpost.

Maré Silver Lake is a charming date-night spot. The design, courtesy of Midcourse Hospitality Group's Jim Hustead, pulls inspiration from Portugal. The lighting is romantic, with candles flickering throughout the space, while street-facing windows and plants strewn throughout give the restaurant an airy feel. Meanwhile, the tilework behind the bar, as well as the paintings done in rich colors, add a touch of charm and vibrance.

The main menu here does not stray far from the one found at Maré's other locations. You can still get a whole branzino, or a tender skirt steak marinated in soy and orange juice, accompanied by oregano chimichurri and sea urchin butter. You can also do their signature shellfish dish, which comes with your choice of clams, black mussels or shrimp in your choice of broth. (The mussels are great with curry and green apple.)

What is unique is the specials board, and the hours during which one might enjoy them. Maré Silver Lake is poised to stay open until 2 a.m., making it an ideal stop for the weekend bar hopper. The Greek yogurt and pistachio arancini come as two plump rice balls with a bright saffron aioli for $7. They serve as both a perfect starter or a late-night bar bite. There's also the savory focaccia, topped with chunks of chorizo, leek fondue and leafy watercress for $9. Perhaps the most interesting item is the Bouillabaisse croquette ($8). Bouillabaisse is a fish stew that hails from Marseille, which Greenspan bakes into the croquettes. Each one begins with a crisp bite through the fried exterior, giving way to a soupier interior, similar to a dumpling.

Maré takes over the former Barbarella location, or at least part of it. According to Eater LA, the rest of the space belongs to The Friend, a new cocktail bar .

Brunch and happy hour are both expected for Maré Silver Lake in the near future. Otherwise, opening hours are Sunday through Wednesday, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday, 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Maré Silver Lake is located at 2609 Hyperion Ave. in Silver Lake, 323-522-6656.
