Here's Where To Drink This 'Adult Milk And Cookies' Cocktail


A drink can, if done correctly, double as dessert. Such is the case with this darling cocktail now available at Koreatown's Lock & Key.

Lock & Key gets a lot of attention for the peculiar way guests enter the establishment: one is faced with dozens of doorknobs and must choose the correct one to actually open the door. But Lock & Key is also pouring some of the most innovative craft cocktails around, going far beyond twists on Manhattans, mules and palomas.

This drink is called Unknown Pleasures, taking its name from the 1979 debut album from the band Joy Division. It consists of bourbon infused with brown butter pecan, sweetened corn milk, cinnamon, vanilla and angostura bitters with a house-made tuile cookie. The cocktail is thus dairy-free, yet still has a creamy texture that works well with the wintery spices. It also comes served in a glass milk carton with a striped straw. The cookie is slightly chewy with a not-too-sweet, nutty flavor.

The drink plays with the idea of a milk punch, which generally consists of bourbon or brandy, milk, sugar and spice. Milk punches are a common breakfast (or any time, really) cocktail in New Orleans. According to the New Orleans Bar Association, the drink may have not been invented in New Orleans, but it did enjoy a rebirth there. Benjamin Franklin was known to make a milk punch from his own recipe.
