[UPDATED] Two Jamaican Nationals Arrested For Shooting At West Adams Party With 15 Victims
Two men have been arrested in connection to the terrible shooting event that happened at a restaurant in West Adams early on Saturday morning, reports the Los Angeles Times. The men are both Jamaican nationals, and were arrested early on Sunday morning for their suspected role in a gunfight that killed three, and wounded 12.
At around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, gunfire from multiple shooters erupted at a crowded house converted into a restaurant on Rimpau Boulevard, just south of Adams Boulevard. The gunfight occurred after a man was shot while being confronted by two other people, reportedly over a drug deal gone bad. After that initial shooting, more people with guns joined the fight, catching the more than 50 people inside the restaurant in the crossfire.
The two men who were arrested, 33-year-old Mowayne McKay and 25-year-old Diego Reid, are not thought to be the first two who initially confronted the first victim. Those men remain at large, according to the Times. McKay and Reid are expected to be booked on murder charges, though formal charges are pending the ongoing police investigation.
When officers first arrived at the scene early Saturday morning, they reported a scene of pandemonium as panicked partygoers fled the scene. Investigators found expended shell casings inside the restaurant, on the building's driveway and along Rimpau Boulevard.
All of this took place in a house that's been converted into a restaurant in West Adams. Though not technically permitted, the restaurant has a wide following. The restaurant's owner, a man who goes by Dilly, explained to the Times that there is no formal menu. Instead, people gather at the home while he cooks and serves Jamaican food. On Friday nights, he brings in a DJ. On the night the shooting occurred, Dilly said most of the people present were celebrating a birthday.
Curiously, this is not the first time there has been a shooting at the restaurant. Back in 2011, another fatal shooting claimed the life of one person at the location. As of Sunday evening, most of those wounded during the shooting had been released from the hospital, though one male victim remained in "extremely-critical" condition, according to KABC.
Update: LAPD announced on Monday morning that a fourth person has died in relation to the shooting, according to KABC. The man is presumably the victim listed in "extremely-critical" condition on Sunday evening. The death toll has been revised to four killed, 11 wounded.
