Silver Lake's 365 By Whole Foods Market Will Have Lower Prices & Shorter Shelves

If you've been curious how Silver Lake's 365 by Whole Foods Market is going to differ from an ordinary Whole Foods, the retailer has some answers.

Whole Foods will open the first of several 365 by Whole Foods Market at 2520 Glendale Blvd. in Silver Lake on Wednesday, May 25.

365 president Jeff Turnas told Business Insider that the 365 stores will be considerably smaller with lower shelving and express checkout lanes for convenience. They'll also be cheaper, with prices more in line with Trader Joe's and Sprouts, and will feature a rewards program. Digital signs will replace printed paper signs, allowing the retailer to make quick prices changes.

The store will carry about a third of a Whole Foods' usual stock, some from the store's 365 Everyday Value brand and then other products from national brands. Some of the latter are brands that are not typically sold at Whole Foods. Prepared foods will be located in the center of the store.

Whole Foods cut costs when it came to the building, design and furnishing of the 365 stores. Despite the basic design, 365 stores will also offer places where shoppers can hang out, including restaurants as well as beer, coffee and juice bars. When Silver Lake's 365 opens, it will contain an outpost of New York's popular vegan eatery by CHLOE, a self-serve tea kiosk, and a coffee and craft beer bar from Allegro Coffee Company. The market will also offer delivery via Instacart.
