Bernie Sanders Introduced Run The Jewels At Coachella
Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders made a surprise appearance at Coachella on Saturday when he introduced the set for rap duo Run the Jewels. One half of the Jewels, Killer Mike, has been a huge supporter of Sanders, often accompanying him on the campaign trail, introducing the senator with impassioned speeches of his own.
The tables were turned this time: according to Mashable, a video of Sanders introducing Run the Jewels was shown at the main stage just before their 4:55 p.m. set.
Here's what he said:
One of the highlights of running for president over the course of this last year has been getting to know Killer Mike. His depth of passion and his knowledge and commitment to community is an inspiration to me, and I value his friendship immensely. El-P, keep up the great work, and let's get to know each other better in the months to come. By the way, I thought the least I could do for both of you was to help you out by bringing you a few young people together. So without further ado, I'd like to introduce my friends, Run the Jewels.
"I like the O.G., old guy," Killer Mike told Mashable ahead of his set. "He's something I've rarely seen in politics in that he really has his integrity intact, he's fair and honest...I'm enamored with the OG, I'm going to try to help him as best [as I can] to become president and if not I'll go to Vermont and eat pancakes and just talk about what we always did."

Whoa. Bernie Sanders just introduced Run The Jewels' #Coachella set via video. Maybe Hillary Clinton will counter by introducing Ice Cube?— Jason Lipshutz (@jasonlipshutz) April 17, 2016
This was a warmup for Berniechella—yes, it's a real thing—a free block party that will feature DJ sets from Shepherd Fairey, Zoe Kravitz, performances, food trucks, and a beer garden in Old Town Coachella this coming Thursday and Friday.
