Taco Stand Shooting Leaves One Dead
A man was shot and killed late Friday night in South Los Angeles after he, and two others, attempted to rob a taco stand, according to KTLA.
At around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, three men pulled up to “Primo’s Tacos,” a stand that sets up shop on the corner of Century Boulevard and San Pedro in the Broadway-Manchester district most evenings.
“Three men walked up to the taco stand with the intention of robbing it,” said Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Clint Dohmen, to City News Service. “One of the men pulled out a handgun and one of the employees at the taco stand pulled out his gun and fired at the robbers.”
The robber who pulled the gun was fatally hit, and later died after he was transported to Harbor UCLA Medical Center.
Lt. Dohmen says that it appears the employee who shot the would-be robber was acting in self-defense. The fact that he was packing heat while slinging burritos is probably a result of the fact that the stand is set up in one of L.A.’s more dangerous neighborhoods.
According to KTLA, stand employees said “it seems like every week someone tries to rob the place.”
Both employees of the taco stand were detained for questioning, and the two other would-be robbers remain at large this morning.
