Photos: Movie Theaters From The Golden Age Of Hollywood
One of the best things about living in Los Angeles is that it's not hard to find a place to catch a movie. And while the megaplex is certainly the most ubiquitous option, they tend to lack a certain...panache. Lucky for us, there are still several movie theaters in L.A. that have been preserved from the Golden Age of Hollywood: The Egyptian, Grauman's Chinese Theater, and the Vista to name a few of the most prominent.
Here, we've collected photos from the Los Angeles Public Library photo collection of these early movie palaces in their heyday, capturing movie premieres of the 1920s, lavish interiors, and the context of the streetscapes outside. (No shade for the Arclight, but the Cinerama Dome of the 1960s sure looked cool without the multi-story complex looming behind it.) As always, the LAPL's collection was completely stacked, so this is just a small sample of what the collection has to offer.
