Get Lost Inside This Floor-To-Ceiling Maze Of Cake

An art installation featuring six rooms of floor-to-ceiling cake sculptures will host pop-up dinners, speakeasies and live performances for 30 days starting this Saturday.
The immersive installation, known as Break Bread, is the work of artist and Banksy collaborator Scott Hove along with Keith Magruder, aka Baker’s Son. It will take place at downtown L.A.'s Think Tank Art Gallery. The 9,000 square foot space will feature elaborate cake chambers and sculptures, tech-based mirror mazes, and a life-size ice cream truck peddling products made of hyperrealistic watercolors. Far from entirely sweet, many of Hove's cake sculptures feature dark elements like fake animal teeth and switchblades nestled in the fluffy frosting. There will also be a pop-up Stumptown coffee shop and lounge themed for Zumanity, Cirque Du Soleil's erotic show.
Here's a look at what's in store:
While visiting the stunning and sweet installation during the day will be free and open to the public—reservations are recommended—there will also be a wide variety of ticketed special events nightly. The events include pop-up supperclubs, comedy shows, immersive theater performances, speakeasies, boozy brunches, live music and more.
The first big curated night, following Saturday's opening, will be a special Valentine's Day event on Sunday. The romantic night—known as "it'll be intimate"—will feature exclusive access to the exhibit, cocktails designed by two mixologists from The Varnish, luxe chocolates and other treats, and will conclude with a private burlesque-cabaret performance of Cirque du Soleil's Zumanity.
There will also be a series of dinners organized by SF-based start-up Feastly. They'll have a Drake-themed, post-Valentine's Galentine's Day with desserts; a five-course dinner by chef Jonathan Tran of ink. with live art from Baker's Son; an African-inspired dinner by Mbombo with live drumming; a tequila and sake tasting with a sushi dinner; and tons more.
Tickets for the pop-up dinners, performances and other events vary in price. Find out more about the events and make reservations here.
