One Of San Francisco's Top Restaurants Is Expanding To L.A.
San Francisco's The Slanted Door, regarded as one of the best restaurants in America, will be expanding to Los Angeles soon.
The modern Vietnamese restaurant, winner of Outstanding Restaurant at the James Beard Awards last year, will be a part of the City Market South development in downtown L.A.'s Fashion District. Also joining the restaurant in the area around 11th and San Julian Streets will be Rossoblù, from Sotto chef Steve Samson, and a new bar from cocktail masters Pablo Moix and Steve Livigni.
"I was drawn to downtown Los Angeles because of the exciting redevelopments taking place there," Charles Phan, owner and chef of The Slanted Door, told the L.A. Times. "I tend to favor emerging neighborhoods and thus City Market South seemed like the ideal fit."
Phan was recently in Los Angeles at last weekend's Food And Wine Festival.
The Slanted Door's future L.A. home will have a stark, modern feel much like its current space in San Francisco's Ferry Building, as it'll be designed by Olle Lundberg, whom Phan has collaborated with on many of his ventures.
Rossoblù will be right door, and will be focused on the northern Italian food Samson grew up eating. Moix and Livigni's bar will be across the way on a plaza the restaurants will share.
The buildings that the restaurants will move into have been there for over a century, and became the sprawling City Market produce mart in 1909. The first wave of restaurants, including The Slanted Door are expected to open early 2016.
We can't wait to eat those glass noodles.
