Hollywood Has A Hip New Rooftop Lounge And Pan-Asian Restaurant
Hollywood has a new hot spot where you can dine, drink, hang out, and drink some more without ever leaving the space. Now open. E.P. & L.P. is a modern, multi-level Asian eating house complete with its own rooftop deck.
There are three entities in the space at Melrose and La Cienega. The cuisine and drinks at all three is inspired by Chef Louis Tikaram's Fijian-Chinese heritage, native Australian roots, and extensive travels throughout Southeast Asia.
The rooftop deck will be a huge draw to the space. Elevators let patrons off at L.P., the rooftop lounge that offers guests stunning views of the city, especially the Hollywood Hills. The L.P. section features a 21-foot-long bar and a fire pit with shared seating. Bordering L.P. is Frankie's, which has a 15-foot-long private bar surrounded with lounge daybed seating. E.P. is the sit-down restaurant of the complex. It has a copper and green onyx open kitchen and floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto La Cienega Boulevard complete with a rolling LED art piece.
E.P. features traditional Southeast Asian dishes with unique twists, like Nama Sea Pearls made with seaweed ceviche with fresh coconut milk, Lou Dogg's crispy skin chicken, wood-grilled Fijian tuna topped with green mango, Chiang Mai larb, and sweet black sticky rice with Szechuan cotton candy. Tikaram blends the traditional Southeast Asian flavors with local farmers market produce and California seasonal ingredients. The Eating House is equipped with a custom wood grill to allow meat to get a smoky, charred taste.
For those looking to mingle and enjoy the cityscape views up top, L.P. offers a condensed 'bar menu' comprised of Asian tapas also designed by Tikaram. The dishes will feature unique dishes such as soft shell crab bun, "nachos" with cassava crackers and coconut cream chicken dip, sweet & sour sticky chicken wings tossed in mint, coriander, and roasted rice and Thai-style jerky made with spiced beef and house-made Sriracha.
Each of the three spaces will carry their own special cocktails that will not be available at the others. The beverage program at E.P., L.P., and Frankie's provides customized cocktails to match Chef Tikaram's Southeast Asian menu. Traditional Asian ingredients meant to "heal or extend life" were incorporated to the drinks such as galangal, cassia bark, kaffir lime cordial, tamarind, cardamom bitters, as well as teas from all over Asia, and green papaya. Standouts from the L.P. bar include the Thai Town Rodeo, which uses pandan and Indonesian long pepper with bourbon and Cynar. L.P. is also putting a modern twist on an Asian drink favorite: boba. Bubble tea cocktails with house-made bellini boba pearls and house-made Indian tonic boba pearls served in a sealed plastic cup will be rolling out soon complete with a oversized straw as well as shareable cocktails for groups of four or more. A number of alcoholic concoctions will be served in copper pineapples and flamingo drink ware.
Since E.P. and L.P. hope to become the 'it' place for night owls and food industry folks to gather after their shifts, there will be will be full service on the rooftop until 2 a.m. nightly. No need to fret about music, superstar DJ Axwell of Swedish House Mafia is an investor in the project so the music should hit all the right notes.
E.P. and L.P. will be open from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. every night, with Frankie's running Thursday to Sunday.
E.P., L.P., and Frankie's is located at 603 North La Cienega Boulevard in West Hollywood, 310-856-9955.
