'Fast & Furious' Attraction Will Surround Riders With 3D Imagery On Universal Studios Backlot Tour

The Universal Studios backlot tour is getting a new Fast & Furious-style grand finale.

The attraction, dubbed “Fast & Furious-Supercharged,” opens June 25 and features franchise stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Luke Evans in a new story that sees the characters face off against an international crime cartel, Variety reports. A making-of special will air on NBC during its broadcast of Fast Five at 8 p.m. tonight.

“Supercharged” will be a hydraulic motion-based ride with special effects, 3D audio and 3D imagery projected onto a 360-degree screen nearly 400 feet long that will surround riders on the studio tour. There also will be prop cars used from the films, including Diesel’s Dodge Charger. Meanwhile, Universal Pictures will open Furious 7 on April 3.

Universal Studio has run its backlot tram tour attraction since the ’60s, incorporating such films as Psycho, Jaws and, most recently, King Kong in a 3D feature.
