1-Year-Old Boy Stabbed To Death, Father Considered A Suspect [Updated]
A one-year-old boy was found stabbed to death in a Ventura home on early Monday.
Ventura police arrived at the home located on the 400 block of Crocker Avenue around 1:45 a.m. after the boy's father called police about his son's death, according to KTLA. They discovered the boy's body on a bed in the home. Authorities found the father, who is described as about 30 years old, suffering from two stab wounds to his upper torso. His name has not been released yet.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The father was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery.
The father is considered as a possible suspect, police said. Investigators are treating this as a homicide investigation.
The three to four-bedroom home is shared by different families, in which each of the families live in different rooms, with a total of 8 to 10 residents. Authorities have been interviewing the other people who live in the home. The mother and father are separated and authorities do not believe she was there at the time of the stabbing.
UPDATE 4:00 p.m.: Police have arrested the father, 28-year-old Adrian Navarrete-Gonzalez, in connection with the stabbing of his 1-year-old son, Jacob Navarrete, according to KTLA. Detectives believe that the father is responsible for his son's death after their investigation today, KABC reported.
"He was the last one to be with the child while the child was alive. We have, at this point, no other information that's leading us in any other direction," Ventura Police Department Commander Darin Schindler told KABC.
Authorities are keeping him in police custody while he is recovering from surgery at the hospital. When he is discharged, he'll be booked at Ventura County Jail.
