Echo Park Shooting Leaves One Man Dead, May Be Gang Related

A barrage of bullets left a 21-year-old man dead this morning in Echo Park in what police suspect is a gang-related shooting.

Police said the shooting happened at about 1:40 a.m. near the intersection of Toluca, Douglas and First streets in southern Echo Park, The Eastsider reported. The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead by paramedics shortly after they arrived.

Details are still forthcoming, but Lt. Wes Buhrmester with the LAPD Rampart Division said in an email that the investigation is being handled as gang-related. Another fatal shooting took place in about the same location a month ago.
