Watch A Time-Lapse Video Of The Century Boulevard Bridge Being Destroyed

The Century Boulevard Bridge was demolished without a hitch this weekend, as drivers going toward LAX dealt with backed-up traffic in the so-called "Century Crunch."

Metro tweeted out a time-lapse video of the old Santa Fe railroad bridge demolition that took place near the intersection of Century Boulevard and Aviation Boulevard. The intersection was closed on Friday and is set to reopen tomorrow at 6 a.m. or maybe earlier, provided the falling bridge hasn’t caused too much damage to the pavement below, City News Service reported.

Two lanes on Century Boulevard east of LAX will be closed for 16 months as contractors build a new Metro station there. The $2 billion Crenshaw/LAX line will run from the Metro Expo line at Exposition and Crenshaw Boulevards to the Green line station near the airport. It’s expected to open in 2019. LAX officials also hope to build a people mover at the new 96th Street station to connect the light rail to LAX terminals.
