Here's What Hockey at Dodger Stadium Will Look Like
It's one thing to have a 200-foot by 85-foot ice rink in the middle of Dodger Stadium, but the NHL also plans to have a beach volleyball court and a roller hockey rink to add to the Stadium Series spectacle on Jan. 25.
I already documented yesterday how the NHL plans to create the ice rink for the actual game. The NHL also plans to have local beach volleyball players play before the game and during the intermissions on a court constructed in left field.
KISS will perform before the game and during the first intermission on a special stage set up in right field. Jordin Sparks will sing the National Anthem from a second stage set up behind home plate. John Ondrasik from the band Five for Fighting will perform on the home plate stage during the second intermission.
And that roller hockey rink over home plate? Players from the Ducks and Kings street hockey teams will scrimmage.
Although the game will start at 6:30, festivities get started at 3:30 with a festival in the left field parking lot with all of the accoutrements that are to be expected.
Formalities aside, this is certainly going to be an interesting event. High temperatures will most likely be in 70s and will probably dip into the 60s by the time the puck drops.
Palm trees, shorts and flip-flops: that certainly is a strange way to imagine outdoor hockey when we're used to snow, scarves and sweaters.
