The weekend is so close you can practically taste it. Here are the edible events going on in the next few days to keep you occupied — and sated, for that matter.

Wine Riot: This Saturday, Wine Riot will return, this time taking over the Majestic Halls near the Pershing Square Metro Station in Downtown Los Angeles. Over 250 wines from wineries around the world will be poured, all with the aim of taking the snobbery and pretentiousness out of tasting. There'll be all sorts of seminars and demos, but beware that there might be some foul language thrown around along with some goofy wine pairings. Wine Riot will host two flushes of the event; the first, Riot One, from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., and the second, Riot Two, from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person, include unlimited wine tastings, and are available for purchase on their site.

Jam Making Class at New School of Cooking:Jessica Koslow is the jam master. Her preserves, pickles, and jams at Sqirl have evolved into a full on cafe, which stole our hearts and bellies from the get-go. This weekend you can find Koslow at The New School of Cooking in Culver City, where she'll be teaching guests to make Warren pear butter and cranberry bourbon jam. The $110 class fee includes instruction, recipes, a light lunch and the jams you've whipped up class. The class is on Saturday from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Make your resizes by calling (310-842-9702).

Whiskey for a Cause at Seven Grand: The local bartending community is getting together to support Parker Beam, the Master Distiller at Heaven Hill who was recently diagnosed with ALS disease. They're joining together to raise funds for the "Promise of Hope" fund by bringing in cocktails aplenty, live music by Erik Trickett's Band and Pretty Dead Ferrari, and a magic show by Joshua Lucas. The festivities and fundraiser will take place on Sunday from noon on at Seven Grand Whiskey Bar. For details on the location you can visit their site here.
