Video: Swedes Send Sand To Eroding SoCal Beach

How bad is the beach erosion at Port Hueneme? So bad that people from the other side of the globe are sending sand.

The Ventura County Star reports that a family from Stockholm, Sweden, who recently visited the Ventura County city, sent a four-pound bag of sand to Port Hueneme City Hall, which arrived Wednesday.

Congress has not set aside enough money to help repair the city's beaches, the Star reports. The city is supposed to receive extra sand every two years through nearby dredging by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, but that hasn't happened lately due to federal budget restraints. City officials say the erosion problem is so bad that the tide is encroaching on city streets.

The Rademaeker family from Stockholm made a video of their two boys collecting sand from the Stockholm Archipelago a few miles outside of Stockholm. The Rademaekers say they hope it inspires more people from all over the world to send in sand.
