Big Rig Crash Injures Nine

A big rig truck that crashed through the median of the Santa Ana Freeway in Dana Point crashed into six vehicles and injured nine people.

The big rig lost control going northbound on the 5 Freeway, went through the divider near Camino de Estrella into southbound lanes at around 12:15 p.m. this afternoon. Nine people were taken to the hospital after sustaining minor to moderate injuries including a one-year old, a three-year old and their father Orange County Fire Authority Captain Steve Concialdi told City News Service.

All lanes were closed at 1:15 p.m. to land a helicopter to lift a victim to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange Lynnette Round of the Orange County Fire Authority told CNS. All but one southbound lane has been closed so emergency crews can deal with the scene that spread out over 300 feet.

CHP is advising for drivers to use PCH to get around the scene. Southbound lanes are backed up to Alicia Parkway, and northbound lanes from Christianitos.
