Barragan's Echo Park Restaurant Closing in December

I'm sure you can find another place to get margaritas and Combination #1, a beef taco and cheese enchilada. But come mid-December you can't get them at Barragan's Echo Park restaurant.

As Eastsider LA reported,

Barragan said a confidentiality agreement prevented him from identifying the buyer of the Echo Park restaurant in the 1500 block of Sunset Boulevard and the parking lot across the street. He said he will try to relocate some of the Echo Park restaurant’s 35 employees to the Burbank and Glendale locations.

Ramon Barragan opened the restaurant in 1961, originally a tiny eatery that seated 25. He eventually expanded to the current 350-seater with a full bar, patio and a banquet room. A Glendale location opened in 1981 and a Burbank location opened in 1985. Barragan's son, Armando, currently runs the Echo Park location.

Politicians, governors, Dodger owners have all dined at Barragan's. However, as Armando told Eastsider LA, the competition from the Downtown renaissance and taco trucks had cut into the business.
