Man Who Stabbed Teacher In Front Of Her Class Charged With Capital Murder
The man who stabbed a teacher in front of her students in a park in Long Beach was charged with capital murder.
Steven Brown was charged in Friday's stabbing death of Kellye Taylor with the special-circumstance charge of lying in wait. The special circumstance gives prosecutors the option of seeking the death penalty in the case, but they will wait before making a decision the District Attorney's office told City News Service.
Brown stabbed Taylor while she took her class from Huntington Academy School, a private elementary school, on an outing to Orizaba Park in Long Beach. Brown stabbed Taylor in the neck and fled. Taylor died from her wound, and Brown was apprehended a few blocks away.
Reports emerged yesterday that a custody battle between Brown and Taylor could have been the motive of the murder.
He remains in jail held without bail.
