Man Who Punched Female Clerk In The Eye Arrested

The man who brutally punched a female gas station clerk in the face over a $1.41 cigar has been arrested.

Detectives from Lakewood Sheriff's Station arrested Kendrick Ruth, a 35-year-old resident of Long Beach, on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, according to an email press release. Ruth was arrested when leaving the motel near Long Beach Boulevard and Artesia Boulevard in Long Beach.

On September 7, 2013, Ruth allegedly assaulted the 23-year-old clerk when she refused to let him pay only $1 for a $1.41 cigar. The victim suffered severe injuries as a result of the attack and may lose her vision in one eye. The assault was captured on the gas station's surveillance video.

Ruth was booked for robbery and assault at the Los Angeles County Men's Central Jail. His bail has been set at $100,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned today at Los Cerritos Superior Court in Bellflower.
