Lindsay Lohan Switches Coasts For Rehab So She Can Keep Smoking
Lindsay Lohan, who is under court order to go to rehab, decided to switch facilities at the last minute so she can continue to light up while she gives up drinking (at least for a while).
Lohan was supposed to go to a rehab facility in Long Island, but then she found out that they ban smoking. Without the permission of prosecutors, she found another facility in Newport Beach called Morningside Recovery and checked in. Lohan's attorney Mark Heller told Los Angeles Superior Judge James R. Dabney that should meet all the conditions she agreed to in a plea bargain, according to City News Service.
But Terry White, a Santa Monica assistant city attorney, isn't so sure. He produced three newspaper articles that were critical of the facility. TMZ looked into the facility's record and found out that its license for providing rehab treatment was revoked. The facility can provide a sober living environment but it can't actually offer treatment with its current license.
There are a couple reasons for this, TMZ reports. In 2011, the license for suspended for being careless with prescription drugs. Another reason is related to the death of 20-year-old Brandon Jacques, who was being treated for alcohol addiction and bulimia. The facility is not licensed to treat patients with eating disorders, and the family filed a lawsuit against Morningside, claiming that the facility should have transferred him to a hospital.
The judge is giving prosecutors a week to look into the facility, and they'll meet up again on May 10 to figure out whether they'll give the facility its blessing.
