The 10 Best Blow Dry Bars in Los Angeles

If you're new to the concept, a blow dry bar is a salon that offers only blow-outs - no cut, no color, no chemicals. These blow-on-the-go salons are currently the best trend in affordable luxury, and with new ones popping up in Los Angeles daily, we ask: Why wash and style your own hair, when you can get a professional to do it for you for $35 or under? Here are the top 10 places to get blown in L.A.

#10: BLOWLUX
At Blowlux, your hair will be washed with organic, cruelty-free products and styled into one of 5 styles from their menu for only $35. Blowlux also offers makeup and nail services for the same price as a blow- out, so it’s a one-stop beauty shop. When you leave, you might even catch a glimpse of one of our Los Angeles Lakers, whom I'm told regularly train at the sports center right across the street.

#9: BLOW ME AWAY LA
Staying true to a formula that works, Blow Me Away LA offers $35 blow-outs from a menu of 5 different styles. You can also add-on a mask treatment or scalp massage for an additional fee - but their standout service is that they also offer a $10 bang trim while you blow, which most other places don’t.

#8: JM BLOWDRY
For being located in Beverly Hills, this blow-out lounge is surprisingly no frills - but don't let that fool you: JM Blowdry refers to their stylists as "artists with a hairdryer." The JM stands for Joseph Martin, whose flagship salon is right next door - and blow-outs there start at $90. Save yourself some cash and come here instead; with complimentary champagne and no appointment needed, you can be in-and- out on your lunch hour. Bonus: There's no pre-selected menu of styles; these artists work with your hair texture and your desired style to give you the best blow-out possible.

#7. BLOW ME DRY
Blow-outs here start at $35, with prices varying on the length of your hair. They have four styles to choose from: a volume blow out, a curly blow out, a straight blow out, and a beachy blow-out. Blow-outs include a hair wash with vegan, sulfate-free products, which is great for those with color-treated hair. As with other dry bars, they also offer additional treatments at an extra charge, including "Hand Jive," a paraffin/massage treatment for your hands. Deals include a $10 discount on your birthday, and happy hour prices ($8 off) on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. However, the best one caters to men: for only $25, the "Mr. Big" offers a hot towel on the face, a 10 minute scalp massage, shampoo, condition, and style, and the hand-jive treatment.

#6. BLOW ANGELS
Blow Angels, one of the newest dry bars in LA, is your best bet if you're truly on a budget. You can choose from one of their 5 signature blow-dry styles for only $29. Be warned though: if your style requires using additional hot tools, such as a curling iron, there's a $5 surcharge.

#5. MYBLOW LA
MyBlow, located across the street from the famed Anastasia eyebrow studio, offers 5 blow-dry styles for $35 - with the addition of a "DIY" style: design-your-own blow! This is a great option for someone with a cut or texture that doesn't fit in to pre-selected styles offered at most blow bars. They also offer a blow-dry for guys, though I've yet to see one in there. You'll be in and out in 30 minutes, unless you select a service from their add-on menu, which features hair and scalp treatments, a scalp massage, and temporary extensions.

#4. STYLE BAR BEVERLY HILLS
Touted as a "beauty express bar," Style Bar was founded by two sisters who could barely find the time for a bang trim, much less a blow out. Their blowout is only $33 - and if you have the budget or taste for a full-on pampering session, you can also tack on makeup and mani/pedi services while they style your hair for an additional $33 each. That's the holy trifecta for under $100 and under an hour - your best bet for getting gussied up on the go.

#3. BLO BLOW DRY BAR
Blo's concept is "fab-in-a-flash: no cuts, no color, just WASH-BLOW-GO." Their menu of seven pre-selected styles includes a bun, a ponytail, and a fishtail braid, which I haven't found at any other blow dry bars. But don't feel reined in by their menu: stylists will work with you want based on your length, texture, and desired style, and there's no extra charge for the use of additional hot tools such as flat irons or curling irons. Get styled while you sip on complimentary champagne and take home a cheeky button with sayings such as "BLO BOSS" or "BLO ME."

#2. STUDIO K BLOW DRY BAR
This hidden gem in Pasadena is touted as a "friendly and fun-loving place where a girl can get glam. Founded last August by veteran makeup and hair artist Kelly Zhang, this blow dry bar goes above and beyond by including a neck and scalp massage with your wash and blow dry at no extra charge, leaving your grand total at $35 (not including tip). In addition, they offer "Happy Hour" on Tuesday and plenty of other deals via their Facebook page.

#1. DRYBAR
Drybar is often attributed with starting the "blow dry bar" craze in Los Angeles, and with 8 locations spread across the basin, it's easy to see why. Affordable luxury reigns supreme here: blow-outs are $35, which includes a wash, and you can choose from a menu of 5 different styles, all named after cocktails. Additionally, every chair features purse hooks, iPod docking stations, and a great view of a flat screen TV playing something ridiculously girly (think "Sex & the City"). If you hair needs some extra TLC, you can add-on a scalp message or a hair treatment service for an additional charge.
