Taste Of Brooklyn: Grimaldi's Pizzeria Is Coming To SoCal

We're soon going to get our own version of the legendary Grimaldi's pizza baked in a coal-fired oven under the Brooklyn Bridge.

Grimaldi's Pizzeria of New York City is opening its first California location, complete with its own coal-fired oven, in El Segundo late this spring, according to The Daily Breeze. The chain will be opening up at the Daily Grill site at 2121 Rosecrans Avenue. The location seats 280, and there will be a bar and patio.

"After overwhelming demand by fans in California, our team searched the state and found the perfect location in El Segundo," Joey Ciolli, president and chief executive officer of Grimaldi's, told the Daily Breeze.

This location is just the beginning: there are five more locations in California in the works. We're curious to see if there will be a location in Los Angeles proper. Grub Street notes that Los Angeles has yet to get its own coal-fired pizza place, and it's not clear if the ovens are allowed under city codes.

Lady Gaga as well as noted Chicagoan Michelle Obama are fans of Grimaldi's.

The chain won't be importing water from Brooklyn, but it will have a chemist on-board to make the water taste comparable, according to Brooklyn Heights Blog.
