Introducing Xiao Liwu (Photo via San Diego Zoo/Facebook)
At long last, that fuzzy, ticklish, utterly adorable male baby panda born at the San Diego Zoo has a name!
The San Diego Zoo revealed today the male panda's name is Xiao Liwu. " His name means "little gift," and he is a gift to us and his species," the Zoo posted on Facebook. (If you're so inclined the whole naming ceremony is viewable online, too.)
The cub, who we've seen get a little tickled during an earlier exam, is the sixth panda born at the San Diego Zoo and the third male. He was born July 29 to giant panda momma Bai Yun. The birth was a milestone, breaking the record for the most giant panda cubs born at a breeding facility outside of China.
Now, in keeping with Chinese tradition, Xiao Liwu has been given his name after 100 days. We'll be sure to keep an eye on the cute little guy's development.
