In classic L.A. style, transit officials are following up last year's Carmageddon with its sequel, Carmageddon II (come on, you know you want to add "Electric Boogaloo"). But for this weekend and next, motorists are in for a little sneak peek at the big event, thanks to partial closures of the 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass.

This weekend, the southbound 405 Freeway between the 101 Freeway and Getty Center Drive will be closed overnight Saturday into Sunday morning, and the following Saturday night the northbound side in the same area will be completely closed as well. Other closures are also slated for the days leading up to Carmageddon II, which will find the whole 405 Freeway shut down in the Sepulveda Pass September 29-30 to accommodate the demolition of the Mulholland Bridge.

These "preview" closures will allow contractors to do further prep work for the bridge demolition.

Here's the upcoming closure schedule from Metro:

Officials are urging anyone who lives, works, or plays in the area of the closures to plan their weekends accordingly.
