If you’re a mountain biker looking for a great way to give back to the community, here’s your big chance. Heal the Bay and the Mountains Restoration Trust are in search of 20 volunteer bikers willing to get down and dirty this Saturday, June 23, from 8:45am until noon. Volunteers will bike off-road in Malibu Creek State Park and clear the grounds of invasive weeds not easily reached by hikers.

Though the group promises participants need not be as excellent a cyclist as Lance Armstrong, they recommend being comfortable riding on rocky terrain. The organizers also suggest riders wear good shoes and a helmet, and pack lots of of water, snacks and sunscreen. Gloves and other tools needed for the job will be provided.

Volunteers can sign up on the event site and should do so early, as spaces are first-come, first-serve. All volunteers must be over the age of 16 and sign a liability waiver to join in; those under 18 will need a parent to sign their waiver.

Tip: Let the ranger at the gate know you’re a volunteer for the event, and your parking fee will be waived.
