TV Junkie: 'Vampire Mob' Continues to Rock the Genre(s); Pan Am Tips from NBC + More
'Tis the season: Sure, we'll have even more Halloween-themed episodes of TV shows tonight and over the weekend but how about a web series that is committed to a humorous take on the perennial favorite: vampires. With a concept rooted heavily in television Vampire Mob loosely embraces multiple genres with the "mob" referring to HBO's "The Sopranos" and "vampire" referring to every other TV show these days. Check out the most recent episode above and marvel at a cast that includes Emmy-winner Marcia Wallace ("The Simpsons"), Tony Award winner Rae Allen ("The Sopranos"), Kirsten Vangsness ("Criminal Minds"), Chris Mulkey ("BoardWalk Empire"), Retta ("Parks and Recreation"), and Andy Lauer ("Caroline in the City") - all these people and even more behind the camera were pulled together on this project that has truly been bootstrapped from the beginning. Well into the 2nd season I'd love to see more of these guys so please watch and share this show so we can make sure it returns.
It doesn't look like there's a new "Chelsea Lately" tonight, but you will be able to get plenty of Chelsea Handler, recently named "Favorite Late Night Host" in Entertainment Weekly, on both "The Tonight Show" and one of my favorite new programs, "Dave's Old Porn" on Showtime at 11:30pm.
OK, so maybe you don't want to go out to a costume party this weekend dressed as a vampire, zombie, or hooker, or any combination of those. ABC has kindly put up a PDF of how to dress up like one of the PanAm stewardesses, complete with quality logos you can print and cut out, etc.
I can't tell you how pleased I was to see that NBC has bought a TV show from comedian Jim Gaffigan - it's about time that we saw this funny man back on TV! The show is based on a version of his life: a lazy man helping his wife raise a bunch of kids in a cramped 2-room apartment in New York but Jim is anything but lazy. He's getting ready to go on a major stand-up tour next year while getting this show ready (no specific dates for a pilot).
