As the Occupy LA movement continues to bring us face to face with some of the most serious issues plaguing our city today, at least all sides can agree that we could use a good laugh. With that in mind, stand up comic Josh Androsky is hoping to bring some levity (and a bullhorn) to the south steps of City Hall with an open-air comedy show tonight at 5:30pm.

Androsky is a well-known comedian who’s monthly Hamclown show in the Alexandria Hotel is a highlight for the ballooning downtown comedy scene. Already armed with a DIY attitude and an eye for an audience, it’s no surprise that he would see a need for comedy in the middle of all the protest signs and tent poles on the lawns of City Hall. In fact, with stagnant employment rates, tightening budgets and a growing frustration with the government, there may be no better time to rally the troops for a good old-fashioned giggle session.

Trading in the microphone for a bullhorn will be some of LA’s funniest working comics, including Jimmy Dore, Allen Strickland Williams, Seth Morris and Jackie Kashian. At the very least, it’ll be interesting to watch some ‘crowd work’ with someone in a Guy Fawkes mask.

The Occupy LA show is (of course) free and begins at 5:30pm on the south steps of City Hall. Political disillusionment is optional, but a good time seems all but guaranteed.
