TV Junkie: Halloween Programming Ramps Up; Sarah Colonna of 'Chelsea Lately' Gets Her Own Show
We're a happy family .... not. The Harmon family moved into their Hollywood mansion and may never move out, prepare to be even more confused/thrilled by tonight's episode of "American Horror Story"
Tonight, after some comedy on NBC and ABC, we again turn to FX for the twisted psychological and supernatural "American Horror Story." While this week it doesn't become clearer if the Harmon family are operating in a dream state, we are introduced to the idea that some of the characters are "trapped" by the house and are serving it or some other entity. Great performances by Denis O'Hare and Jessica Lange tonight. Don't miss it.
I watch "Chelsea Lately" because no one else is doing what Handler is doing for comedians: providing them with the chance to be involved with 15 minutes of material in front of a large TV audience. For the show's group of panel regulars and show-writers and producers, there is no similar (or comprehensive) support network and it's admirable. Now that NBCUniversal owns E!, it was no surprise to see Handler's sitcom, "Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea" get picked up by NBC, as well as panel regular Whitney Cummings' "Whitney." Now NBC has picked up a show from the very funny and excellent writer Sarah Colonna, called "Life As I Blow It," it's based on her upcoming book of the same name. No air date has been released but hopefully we'll be seeing it in 2012.
Also "Chelsea Lately"-related is the second season of "After Lately" which will stay on E! and show up sometime in the next 5 weeks. The show is currently in production and I've seen some photos leaked by cast members. It's going to be as funny and raw as season 1 so I'm happy to see remain on E! during the late night hours.
Halloween is fast-approaching and while there will be plenty of scary movie marathons on AMC, TCM, and Syfy among others, as well as TV marathons of "The Walking Dead" and "American Horror Story," I'd suggest that you want real horror story genre material, you'll want to check out FEARnet. FEARnet has movie trailers and discussions as well as all the extras horror fans want including FEARnet original "Trick 'r Treat" videos, like the new one embedded at the end of this post. Special Halloween programming on FEARnet includes the US exclusive broadcast of the hit British series "Psychoville" and a "Trick 'r Treat" marathon.
