I Want My NTV? Nic Harcourt Leaves KCRW For Music Supervisor Role At MTV

mtv-logo.jpg Perhaps in an effort to bring music back to Music Television, Nic Harcourt, the tastemaking ten-year DJ and former Music Director of the famed and fabulous KCRW radio station, has packed his bags for the land of cable, and according to a news release.

Former KCRW Music Director Nic Harcourt has decided to leave the Los Angeles public radio station to focus his energy on a full time position as music supervisor in residence at MTV. He will helm music supervision for select shows during the coming year.

Harcourt's role of music supervisor for film, advertising and television evolved as an extension of hosting KCRW’s signature and influential music show, Morning Becomes Eclectic, from 1998-2008.

“Every music director that has come to KCRW has been able to build on the foundation their predecessors left behind, “said KCRW General Manager Jennifer Ferro. “It meant a lot to have all three of our former music directors on the air here, but we wish him well as he continues to find new ways to share his unique music sensibility.”

The initial announcement came at the end of May that Harcourt would be joining forces with Hype Music, a "pioneering partnership", between MTV Networks and Extreme Music, a multi-faceted, music licensing operation. Harcourt will serve as the channel's first Music Supervisor in Residence, notes Hype.

Bringing a wealth of experience and pedigree for putting such artists as Coldplay, Dido and Norah Jones on the map, Harcourt will work closely with Joe Cuello, Senior Vice President of Creative Music Integration for MTV, to bring his music supervision skills to select MTV shows over the course of the coming year.

In addition, Harcourt will serve as a Chief Creative Consultant for the newly announced Hype Music: a first-of-its kind hybrid music production and licensing partnership from MTV and Extreme Music that is fueled by the very best new and emerging independent talent. Harcourt will offer his keen ear and eye for talent to contract directly with Hype to produce new music with vocals that will enjoy first look consideration for key placements across MTV Networks’ programming and be licensed through Extreme’s global client base of professional users.
