Vons, Ralphs, and Albertsons announced in a statement that a tentative agreement has been struck with the grocery workers' union, United Food and Commercial Workers Locals (UFCW), regarding the pension portion of the paperwork. Terms of the agreement that affects more than 60,000 employees in the region were not disclosed.

"We are pleased to have reached an agreement on this important part of the new labor agreement. While we still have more work to do on other important parts of the contract, it is noteworthy we have been able to reach an agreement on the very challenging issue of pension benefits and the employers’ contributions which fund those benefits.”
Union members, working under a contract that expired in March, have been authorized to strike. News of the tentative pension agreement came one day after truck drivers, actors, firefighters, and teachers unions pledged their support should grocery workers decide to picket, notes the L.A. Times.
