LA Times and Food & Wine Events Mate, Spawning 'The Taste' in September

Initially separate—though not equal, by a longshot—last year's inaugural Food & Wine Taste of Beverly Hills has merged with the Los Angeles Times' Celebration of Food and Wine and their spawn is called The Taste. The event will be a four-day celebration of epicurean delights, showcasing local chefs, restaurants, food personalities and more over Labor Day weekend, September 2-5, 2011.

Organizers are aiming to have the event rival nationally-lauded large-scale food fests like those held annually in New York, Aspen, and South Beach. In the works are restaurant tastings, cooking demonstrations, Grand Tastings, wine seminars and mixology performances, and, of course, appearances by all sorts of food world celebs.

Rather than confine the event to a single city or location, The Taste will be infiltrating Beverly Hills (including two "top-secret bashes" on a closed-down Rodeo Drive), Hollywood, and Downtown L.A. with a variety of day and evening gatherings, tastings, and events. On Labor Day, Food TV personality Giada De Laurentiis will play host to a big BBQ and picnic-style event.

Tickets for The Taste will go on sale to the general public just after Memorial Day weekend on June 1, 2011. A portion of the ticket sales will benefit Collins College of Hospitality Management at Cal Poly Pomona, Share Our Strength, Los Angeles Times Family Fund’s Summer Camp Campaign, Beverly Hills Education Fund, and Los Angeles Conservancy.
